Nicola Catena was a pioneer of high-altitude viticulture in Mendoza. He planted his first Malbec vineyards in Mendoza in 1902. Since the mid-1960s, Nicolas’s grandson has spent his career building Catena in to one of the world’s best wineries, emulating what his mentor Robert Mondavi achieved in California. The Catena wines are a blend of single varietal lots from the Catena family’s vineyards in Mendoza, Argentina. Notes of ripe cassis and blackcurrant fruit on the nose with tobacco, cedar, and a touch of eucalyptus characters. The palate is full and concentrated with layers of berry, mint, and espresso. Pair with roast beef, cassoulet and steak.
