A superb example of what Alto Adige is capable of producing. Even as the youngest winery in the Süd Tirol the Cantina Produttori Valle Isarco has already become synonymous with fine white wines. The climate and topography gives the wines their unique and distinctive character. Some of the vines grow at 800-900 metres altitude. White grapes flourish in particular because of the nutrient-rich (yet porous) soil, the number of sunny days and even distribution of rainfall. Star of this range is the Kerner: Decanter magazines' judge Andrea Briccarello has this to say 'With a production of nearly 800,000 bottles, this co-op makes some of the most stunning Kerners - a cross of Riesling and red Schiava - and embraces what Alto Adige does best.'
The Aristos wines are produced with grapes from low yielding high altitude vineyard plots, giving greater concentration, fresher acidity and added vibrancy to the flavours. This beautifully aromatic unoaked Kerner is fermented in stainless steel before spending a short time on its yeast lees to add additional richness and complexity.
A youthful green-lemon in the glass, this is fruity and aromatic on the nose with ripe peach and fresh citrus along with hints of white blossom. The palate is quite rich and textured with stone and tropical fruits, but kept fresh and elegant with a lovely streak of Sicilian lemon and green apple, along with hints of white pepper and grapey ‘muscat’ notes adding to complexity. This has a long finish with floral aromatic notes. An excellent match with delicate white fish and shellfish dishes, or drink as an aperitif. This is delicious now as a perfect wine for springtime, but also has the capacity to cellar over the next 6-8 years.
"Ripe Peach and apricot aromas. Very rich, intense and beautifully aromatic on the finish. Complex and seductive with lots of tropical fruit on the palate." 95 Points - Andrea Briccarello
"Hints of Muscat grapes on the nose, which is refined. White pepper, ripe citrus and sweet spices linger on the palate nicely. Very typically Kerner, with a hint of residulal sweetness." 95 Points - Ian D'Agata
"Racy and zesty nose: a fragrant leafy and floral mix. Full flavours of citrus peel and tart apples with interesting underlaying biterness. Excellent length and aroma." 95 Points - Michael Garnermore ↓ less ↑

Smoked haddock tonight so what to drink? Pulled the Aristos because I thought it would be a punchy wine capable of lifting over the smokiness. The wine had a rich palate and a fresh citrus flavour which complimented the fish perfectly. Another good choice from my cellar.
