Champagne Lallier is a small family business crafting Pinot Noir dominated blends from Grand Cru sites around Ay. Much of their fruit is sourced from 'Grand Cru' vineyards - the crème de la crème of vineyard sites, classified as 100 out of 100. Like Bollinger, Lallier also use a high proportion of Pinot Noir in their blend (the Rosé is 100% Pinot Noir), so with Champagne Lallier you get a Pinot Noir dominated blend from Grand Cru and Premier Cru sites which truly is a rarity.

The R.012 from Lallier is a brand new expression of Champagne, which sits somewhere between vintage and non-vintage. The concept behind this wine is to produce a Champagne which captures the overall expression of a specific vintage, in this case 2012 which makes up 81% of the blend, with the addition of small amounts of reserve wines from previous 'vintage' years - here 2008, 2004 and 2002. This helps to create a more complex and rounded wine while still allowing the dominant vintage to show its character. 85% of the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes come from Grand Cru sites. This is an exceptional wine while still offering very good value for a wine of this quality.

R.012 shows a very fine pale golden colour in the glass with a fine mousse. The nose has light buttery aromas of brioche with sweet apricot, citrus and green apple. The rich palate has bold fruit, and is complex, creamy and quite full, yet with a remarkably fresh, long and dry finish. A very fine Champagne for any special occasion.

"This house is based in Aÿ, and the blend is 62% Pinot Noir, 38% Chardonnay. 81% of the wine is from the 2012 vintage. Very fruity with a citrus and apple nose, showing a bit of toastiness and some sweetness to the fruit. Very appealing: this is quite a rich style that’s creamy, bold and spicy. Easy to enjoy. 90/100" Jamie Goode, The Wine Anorak, July 2015
