Zorzal Wines has been dedicated to the production of high-quality wines since 2008. Zorzal belongs to Canadian partners and to the Michelini brothers, who are outstanding in their passionate, personal leadership in the work of the vineyards and winery.
Gualtallary, where Zorzal wines come from, is in one of Argentina's most outstanding vine-growing valleys, the Uco Valley. Gualtallary is situated at 1,350 metres above sea-level in the highest vine-growing zone in the Province of Mendoza, at the foot of Tupungato volcano, one of the highest peaks in the Andes. This zone is characterized by its combination of altitude, alluvial soils, sunny days, low rainfall and wide temperature range. The combination of cool climate and chalky soils gives us wines with great structure and delicious acidity.
'The 2012 Eggo Tinto is produced with 90% Malbec with some Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon thrown into the mix. As with all the Zorzal reds, it fermented and aged in egg-shaped cement vats for one year and half of the wine was in contact with the skins for eight months. It is a ripe and concentrated version of the Terroir Unico, with a strong note of violets and a hint of damsons. The palate has power and restraint, depth and freshness, and a silky texture with sweet tannins and a chalky sensation that is probably amplified by the cement. This is a unique, groundbreaking Malbec blend. At this quality level the price is also superb. Bravo! Drink 2014-2020.' 94 Points Luis Gutierrez, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate April 2014more ↓ less ↑
